Project Overview

The Elmina Data Center project, located in Shah Alam, Selangor, is a significant development within the Elmina Business Park. With an investment value of RM2 billion, this hyperscale data center will enhance Malaysia's digital infrastructure. The data center is designed to support the growing demand for cloud services locally and globally, contributing to Malaysia's digital economy goals. The construction is scheduled to be completed by 2026 and is expected to generate significant economic benefits and job opportunities in the region.

Scope of Work

Cergas Setia's Contributions:

  1. Earthworks: Preparation of the site including clearing, grading, and excavation to establish a solid foundation for the data center.
  2. Reinforced Concrete: Construction of structural elements using reinforced concrete to ensure durability and strength.
  3. Pile Cap Excavation: Excavation for pile caps, which are crucial for distributing the load from the structure to the piles.
  4. Slope Trimming: Adjusting the slope of the site to prevent erosion and ensure stability.
  5. Rebar and Reinforcement: Installing rebar to reinforce concrete structures, enhancing their tensile strength and durability.

Theoretical Challenges and Solutions

1. Earthworks:

  • Challenges: Managing soil conditions, weather disruptions, and ensuring precision in grading and excavation.
  • Solutions: Employing advanced surveying techniques and using heavy machinery to achieve precise grading. Contingency planning for weather-related delays.

2. Reinforced Concrete:

  • Challenges: Ensuring the quality and consistency of the concrete mix, and managing the curing process in varying weather conditions.
  • Solutions: Regular quality checks of concrete materials and employing curing methods such as water curing or curing compounds to maintain optimal moisture levels.

3. Pile Cap Excavation:

  • Challenges: Accurate excavation to the specified depth and managing groundwater or unstable soil conditions.
  • Solutions: Utilizing dewatering pumps to manage groundwater and employing shoring techniques to stabilize the excavation site.

4. Slope Trimming:

  • Challenges: Ensuring stability and preventing erosion during and after construction.
  • Solutions: Implementing erosion control measures such as silt fences, and using retaining walls or terracing techniques to maintain slope integrity.

5. Rebar and Reinforcement:

  • Challenges: Precision in cutting, bending, and placing rebar according to design specifications.
  • Solutions: Utilizing computerized rebar bending machines for accuracy and employing experienced personnel for proper placement and securing of rebar.

This comprehensive approach ensures that the construction process is efficient, safe, and aligned with the project's high standards. Cergas Setia's expertise in these areas contributes significantly to the successful realization of the Elmina Data Center, positioning it as a cornerstone of Malaysia's digital infrastructure.
